To the Editor:
One of the hallmarks of our society is our freedom to choose. Not only do our laws guarantee this freedom, but our free market economy system enhances our choices. For example: bread can be purchased at any number of stores, in any number of varieties, and in a wide range of prices. One customer may desire the best price while another may be more interested in finding the most exciting flavor. Still others may opt to bake their bread at home enjoying the flavor, experience and price thereby afford.
One thing is certain not everyone likes the same bread for the same reason and freedom to choose is beneficial to all.
At the risk of stretching an analogy to its limits, I suggest that in some ways education is similar to buying bread. It is a necessary staple in society. However, shopping at the same store may not best meet the needs/desires of every consumer. Today, more than ever before, private education is seen as a viable choice for more people than ever before. This should be welcomed and not feared. White bread at the lowest price is not denegrated because someone prefers whole wheat. The key is to be an informed consumer. Let's be thankful that we have the freedom to choose.
As a parent who has chosen private education for my children, I invite all interested parents to attend an informational open house hosted by Cape Christian School, Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m., 1855 Perryville Road.
