To the editor:
U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia has proposed the Education Empowerment Tax Credit Act, which would amend the current Internal Revenue Code and allow a tax credit of $1,000 a child a year for educational expenses incurred..
This bill would be open to all parents whose children who are either home schooled or attend public as well as private schools.
I would encourage all parents to contact their representatives in Congress and ask them to support or co-sponsor this act. In order to make sure that this bill is submitted to a congressional committee and proceed to the full House, it needs at least 100 representative to co-sponsor it. Right now there are 28 co-sponsors.
President Bush in outlining his education plan said that he was committed to "leaving no child behind." This is the very kind of bill that makes sure that no child will ever be left behind.
