We have suggested before that legislators should consider putting a lid on higher assessments for residences in which a family has lived for, say, 10 years or longer. Unless there have been significant improvements, such as an addition or a garage, valuations would remain the same.

A good argument can be made that taxpayers could get relief if schools were required to roll back their levies when local revenues from property taxes exceed 1 percent or 2 percent over a two-year period. The current law doesn't work as legislators expected. ...

If property taxes, rollbacks and valuations are left unchanged, Missourians might follow the lead of California and apply limits themselves.
