To the editor: I would like to point out an error in your article titled "Cleaning firms busy with area basements." You report that "insurance will cover losses if a sump pump quits working." That is, however, not the case. Homeowner policies only provide coverage for damage due to failed sump pumps if the policy is endorsed with the specific coverage. ...

I would like to point out an error in your article titled "Cleaning firms busy with area basements." You report that "insurance will cover losses if a sump pump quits working." That is, however, not the case. Homeowner policies only provide coverage for damage due to failed sump pumps if the policy is endorsed with the specific coverage. An unendorsed home¿owner policy would not provide coverage. I note that this information came from the general manager of a cleaning service rather than someone employed in the insurance industry.

Having this type of incorrect information provided to the public makes it difficult for insurance companies to operate, as it gives policyholders expectations of coverage when there actually is no coverage.
