The five-day Jackson Homecomers celebration ends Saturday night.
But there are plenty of opportunities today and Saturday to make the most of a popular event that has drawn crowds for 95 years.
Tonight, the Homecomers talent show finals are scheduled along with a performance by Coyote Creek and attendance prizes. Saturday night winds up with a gospel-music show, queen contest and grand-prize attendance drawing.
But in addition to the scheduled events are all the things that make Homecomers such a special event each year. Food, music, entertainment, contests and the carnival all make for a full schedule.
Many Jackson residents and former residents have been coming to the festival for decades. For them, it wouldn't be August without Homecomers. So visiting and seeing old friends is a big part of the event.
But Homecomers isn't just for Jackson folks. The daily events that end Saturday draw people from all over this area.
If you haven't already, make plans to visit Jackson today or Saturday -- or both. Maybe you'll meet the reigning Miss Missouri, Amber Etheridge, who will be the master of ceremonies both nights.
Most of all, have fun. That's what the many volunteers who make Homecomers a splendid event hope for everyone who attends.
