Many youngsters in Southeast Missouri have become avid readers of the special monthly section called the Southeast Missourian Jr. under the special guidance of Cheryl Ellis.
One of the things that makes this publication for youngsters so special is that it is filled with contributions from those same young readers.
And the youngsters have a special friend at the Southeast Missourian Jr., a mascot called Tracker, who shows up at special events sponsored by the Junior.
One of the most popular of those events is the annual Parks & Rec Day.
This year's sixth annual event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Osage Community Centre.
The Parks & Rec Day is filled with games, activities, crafts, prizes and, most of all, fun.
This is one of the highlights of the summer for hundreds of children who will be on hand for this free event, thanks to the following sponsors: the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, K103, Procter & Gamble, Charter Communications, Dairy Queen, Space Walk, Cape Girardeau Regional Air Festival, Breyers Good Humor and Schnucks.
For any youngster looking for wholesome fun, head for the Osage Community Centre. There will be concessions for sale, or bring a sack lunch.
And have fun.
