As the weather warms, and the end of another school year approaches, our attention and thoughts turn to summer activities.

And for parents, the summer months can be challenging to find ways to keep children active and healthy.

Cape Girardeau and surrounding communities have many events and camps scheduled throughout the summer.

From the Conservation Nature Center to sports camps to water parks and swimming lessons, there are plenty of options available.

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, for example, offers activities from children's theater courses to cooking clubs, from golf to bowling.

Most of the camps and courses are reasonably priced and will keep children from becoming bored and inactive while school is out.

If you haven't done so, search for and read the recent story about area camps at semissourian.com, or read the sports section for camp announcements as they come in.

If you're a parent, consider taking the time to see what your community has to offer. Active children are usually healthy children.
