The Discovery Playhouse has quickly become a cornerstone for downtown Cape Girardeau. Since opening in 2010, the children's museum has attracted 60,000 visitors -- many local, but others from surrounding communities and states.

Recently, Pansy Glenn of Kewanee, Mo., was named the new executive director for the facility. Glenn, who is set to begin her duties later this month, replaces Jennifer Mullix. Mullix did a good job leading the organization before stepping down to further her academic studies.

It appears Glenn will be a good fit for the museum. Her background, which includes marketing, fundraising and grant-writing, will be invaluable. Her experience as director of The Live Wires in New Madrid, Mo., a children's performance group, will also be beneficial. Glenn is well connected to this area, as her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Tracey Glenn, live in Cape Girardeau.

Thanks to dedicated volunteers, private and community partnerships for exhibits, and strong leadership, the Discovery Playhouse has become a local gem and is poised for even more progress. We look forward to seeing its continued success under the leadership of Pansy Glenn.
