Southeast Missourians know too well the scourge of methamphetamine. Its production has clogged our courts, filled our jails and ruined countless lives. The cost, both human and monetary, is incalculable.

A recent story in the Southeast Missourian described how two men have overcome their addiction to methamphetamine by going through Teen Challenge's 14-month recovery program.

Teen Challenge International of Mid-America, located here in Cape Girardeau, is part of a worldwide organization whose aim is to rehabilitate young offenders and put them on a path to a productive life with a solid spiritual foundation. The organization's recipe of self-discipline, hard work, commitment, teamwork and religion has helped many people who had little hope.

Meth is one of the most addictive drugs anyone can use. It destroys health, personal relationships and families. To hear former meth users say this addiction can be overcome is encouraging.
