On a mission

Mission trips sponsored by U.S. churches have helped literally millions of people around the world both physically and mentally.

And individuals who participate in these missions, usually to countries where conditions are so much worse than here, come back inspired, touched and transformed by the experience.

That was the case last month when a group from Cape First Church went to South Africa and helped children with vision problems while spreading the Gospel.

Among other things, members of the group learned that affection and a smile can have as much impact on the lives of others as medical expertise.

Most churches in Southeast Missouri participate in some way or another with foreign-mission projects. Church members can -- and do -- get involved by contributing to these efforts.

But, for the fortunate few who go to far-off lands to work with, comfort and assist those in need, the experience is profound and moving.

Congratulations to all who find it in their hearts to look for ways to make the world a better place, whether it is by donating much-needed funds or participating in a mission trip.

Your work and the results it produces are invaluable.
