About 100 students, teachers, alumni and Notre Dame Regional High School supporters gathered last Sunday for a picnic to kick off the next school year's 75th anniversary celebration.

What an exciting time for Notre Dame. It's also a time to look back on the school's progress.

It began as St. Mary's School, then became Cape Catholic High School and then Notre Dame during the 1960-61 school year to honor the Sisters of Notre Dame on the school's staff.

In 1998, students moved to their current location on Route K, where they moved into a gorgeous new building befitting their rich tradition.

There are 420 students enrolled at Notre Dame this year, some from as far away as Doniphan, Mo., and Cairo, Ill. The principal believes enrollment will rise to at least 450 next year -- Catholics and non-Catholics whose parents believe a parochial education is best for their children.

The community joins in celebrating the successful institution as it celebrates its milestone year.
