To propose a farmer protection Amendment 1 to the Missouri Constitution never to be infringed, the red flag went up. What is this bill protecting? Is it GMO seed companies, new biotechnologies the public would not want in their food supply chain? Why are citizens subject to a duly authorized powers, if any, conferred by article VI of the Constitution of Missouri in this clause?
I believe we need to research the individuals, organizations, the presiding board members pushing the Amendment before we should ever consider making such a final non-reproachable commitment to our Missouri Constitution.
Protecting farmers/land is a great idea, but what industries are behind the scenes on this bill, protecting and making them above reproach by the citizens who consume these products? What is modern ranch and farming practices? North Dakota experienced this legislation, which gave a big leg up to special interest groups who came in from the outside and wanted to tell them what to do.
This Amendment 1 is not going to protect the Missouri small farmer but may protect foreign and industrial farmers/programs. This could be a grab for power to make the consumer impotent to object or contest biotech seed/processes, feed, biotech programs and cloning.
What does Imclone Systems Inc. do? Who is getting grants and money and from whom? Protect your meat, livestock feed and food with your vote of "no" on this vaguely worded bill. Vote "no."
