The band program at Jackson is outstanding, and although Leist won't take credit, he can be proud of what he has done for the music program in the 30 years he has been with the school district.

Leist will retire at the end of the school year, but his talents will play on: His expertise in teaching music will be carried on not only in the Jackson school tradition, but elsewhere because of the many young band directors at other schools he has so graciously worked with when asked.

Nick Leist is an extraordinary teacher who will long be remembered by every student he has helped.
