This area is rich with history, and local individuals and groups have made efforts to highlight different historical themes.
Another one to add to the list is the Cape Girardeau County History Center. A recent story in the Southeast Missourian highlighted the forthcoming facility, which will be located at 102 S. High St. in Jackson. The owner of the building is restoring the building to its original 1940s look. It will be leased to the Cape Girardeau Historical Society, which looks to develop the site as a history hub that will also include traveling exhibits and meetings to learn more.
The center, according to the story, will open on March 15. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. There is no admission fee.
The first exhibit will be on display through June 1. It's called "Spring into History" and includes a quilt collection by Lynn Taylor.
It's good to see individuals and groups take interest in history, preserving it and highlighting interesting tidbits of information for future generations.
We look forward to seeing the center soon and encourage you to put it on your list of places to visit.
