New Delta school

Ask almost any parent of school-age children if he or she wants the best schools possible for those young learners, and the answer usually will be a strong "Yes!" Why, then, do so many parents balk when bond issues appear on the ballot?

Fortunately in the Delta School District, there was a strong show of support for the $2.6 million bond issue that will be used to pay for the construction of an elementary school. The new school will be centrally located, have more space and provide ample hookups for computers and other electronic teaching aids that have become so familiar in most 21st century schools.

It has been more than 50 years since the existing elementary school was opened in the Delta district. Just think of all the changes that have occurred in those decades. Now elementary students will have a school that meets their needs rather than the classrooms that served their grandparents so well.

Congratulations to the supporters who took the time to go to the polls and vote for the school bond issue. Teachers, students and administrators should be pleased when the new building is ready for use in a year or so.
