It's hard to believe the University of Missouri is sitting atop the college football mountain.
Ranked No. 1 and led by Heisman Trophy candidate Chase Daniel, the Tigers are one game away from playing for the national championship. One more opponent stands in the way: Oklahoma.
Missouri's story has been an inspiring one, starting with Daniel, the quarterback, who was passed up by traditional football powers because they thought he was too small. Then there's the coach, Gary Pinkel, who was on the coaching hot seat for two mediocre years before this one. He's been coaching at Mizzou since 2001.
The Tigers are loaded with talent and are an exciting team to watch, especially on offense where their passing game puts up points in a hurry.
Another reason to root for the Tigers tonight when they take on the Sooners: Missouri's roster lists five players from Southeast Missouri: Tyron Reece of Cape Girardeau Central High School, William Moore and Charles Gaines of Hayti, Jimmy Jackson of Caruthersville and Brandon Shipman of Bernie.
Fans will be glued to their televisions once again this weekend.
One more game.
It's a good time to be a Tiger.
