Recently, John Mehner, Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce president and CEO, was recognized by the Missouri Economic Development Council as the year's Professional Economic Developer of the Year.
The award is bestowed on a council member dedicated to improving their community and making a positive impact when it comes to the state's economic development.
Mehner is a well deserving recipient of this award, having successfully worked on multiple projects since being named president and CEO of the chamber in 1993.
The success of the chamber, and subsequently the success of Cape Girardeau and the surrounding communities, is in part thanks to Mehner's leadership. And if anyone was ever prepared to take on a leadership role with the chamber, it's John Mehner.
Before being tapped to lead the chamber, Mehner worked as a policeman in St. Louis and later his family business, Advanced Business Systems. Having both an understanding of government operations and the many issues businesses face, Mehner has effectively used his past experiences to help bring economic growth to Cape Girardeau.
In addition to being an effective leader in the business community, Mehner is one of the nicest and most personable individuals you'll meet as well as a great family man.
Congratulations, John, on your recent recognition, and thank you for your years of service to our community and state.
