To the editor:

Even though the Marquette Hotel remains empty and in serious need of repair, it is Cape's only standing hotel that at one time was so luxurious, so popular and so charming it was a favorite of many and served the people graciously for a long time.

Very often, one expresses disappointment that the hotel no longer is in use, especially since it was so much a part of Cape. Many still remember the beautiful dining area, where one was always served a choice of delicious food with dignity.

Still others recall the pleasant atmosphere the hotel created that won the hearts of all who entered.

I am pleased that the Marquette Hotel is being remembered and appreciated for its worth, its history and its beautiful structure, which no hotel built today could equal.

I am grateful indeed the Marquette Hotel has now been placed on the National Register of Historic Places, where its precious memories will never fade but always remain a lasting treasure.PAULA E. KEMPE
