This weekend is shaping up to be one of the more active weekends in some time, with the highlight and showcase event being the air show with the Blue Angels. There are a couple of other notable events happening as well.
Today the "Over the Edge" fund raiser where local "celebrities" will rappel down 147 feet at Towers South on the Southeast Missouri State University campus to raise money for the United Way. Each rapeller will have raised $1,000 in order to go "over the edge" for charity. Rapellers will officially begin their descents at 11 a.m., and it will continue through around 4 p.m.
Some of the Blue Angels pilots will be on hand Friday evening at the Tunes at Twilight event, dubbed Blues at Tunes. Organizers are expecting larger-than-usual numbers at the show, requiring the closure of Lorimier Street.
Saturday and Sunday is the air show. Gates open at 9 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday. The show has arranged convenient shuttle parking from several locations; to find them, please find our stories at semissourian.com, along with more specifics.
Last, but not least, this weekend marks the grand opening of the stunning Veterans Memorial wall facility in Perryville. There will be special events Saturday and Sunday for several hours beginning at 8 a.m.
It's a special weekend coming up. We hope you find some time to enjoy one of the many activities.
