To the editor:
Ever since discovering that I am a descendent of the founder Cape Girardeau (great-great-great-great-great-great-granddaughter of Louis Lorimier and Charlotte Bougainville), I have been reading all about Cape Girardeau with great interest. I visited Cape Girardeau in 2002 and was able to retrace the steps of several of my ancestors (Rodneys, Dowtys and Lorimiers) who once lived in or around the town. It was an awesome feeling to stand at the graves of Louis Lorimier and his wife Charlotte at the old cemetery after all the reading I had done.
I was in Cape just before the work began on the Red House, and I have been keeping up with this construction by viewing the progress on the Internet. I am so impressed with all the dedication of everyone involved with this. I wish I could have been there last weekend to help celebrate. I hope I will be able to make another trip to Cape Girardeau in the future and visit the Red House Interpretive Center. Congratulations on a job well-done.
