To the editor:
I thought the exposure the Southeast Missourian gave about Proposition A was a great public service. Controlled animal fighting, cockfighting and bear wrestling are inhumane ways that uneducated people enjoy barbaric sports. To chemically enhance a rooster's hormones or its nervous system and strap steel claws to the animal's feet in order to achieve death is morally and ethically wrong. Controlled animal fighting is clearly and undeniably an example of animal cruelty and endangerment.
I cannot believe the Missouri Supreme Court repealed the ban on cockfighting, finding it was in violation of the Missouri Constitution. How can animal abuse be the right of every Missourian? I hope this story about inhumane treatment receives lots of publicity on the national level in order to expose the unethical practice that is only legal in Missouri, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico and Arizona. I will be at the polls Nov. 3 to express my concern. I strongly suggest that the community become unified and vote together to change Missouri law and ban cockfighting and bear fighting.
