To the editor:
The article on walnuts was a most delightful thing, for I have been gathering walnuts from a tree my mother planted in 1904. It came from a walnut my grandfather brought from Georgia and is one of the most prolific walnut trees in existence.
I have picked up and counted the walnuts that have come off this tree for many years. This year I have picked up over 2,750 nuts that have not been eaten by the proliferation of squirrels that inhabit my 100-year-old property. In the same time, five other walnut trees in my area have not produced 500 nuts.
Mother sure knew what was best for everything, including the garden clubs she belonged to and wrote many articles about.
I treasure this huge old tree, for it keeps alive my memories of the past.
