LETTERS: TRANSIT SYSTEM GIVES INDEPENDENCE

To the editor:

I moved to Missouri in July 1993 from Humboldt County, Calif. I sometimes miss seeing the great redwood forest and my dear friends. I never lived in or visited Missouri in my life.

My son and his family moved from California to Missouri in the early 1980s. After my mother passed away from an illness of six years, I had no reason to stay in California any more. I was also a widow, and I decided to move where I could visit my son and family once in a while. It was a big decision, but I have not regretted it for one moment.

Missouri is a very friendly place to live. It has beautiful landscapes as California has. I lived in Delta for two years, but as soon as I found a place that I could live to be even nearer to my son and family in Jackson, I moved to Jackson in March 1996.

I have met many friendly people here, and since I have no transportation to come and go as I please, I have had to depend on neighbors and friends besides my son and family, which I do appreciate very much. But it seemed as though I had lost some of my independence.

Then someone told me about the great Cape County Transit. Thanks to them, I have my independence back. They are a great group of people and are so friendly and courteous. They have gone beyond their expected duties to do a great favor when it was possible. I appreciate this great service we have to help the senior citizens and the handicapped.

The people of Jackson should be proud to have this service. It's a great service to those who have no way to get to a store for their needs without feeling they must impose on someone to take them. They can have that sense of independence again. Boy, it feels great. I never had this service in California. Thank you, Missouri.
