To the editor:

The Welcome Back Picnic for Southeast Missouri State University students at Capaha Park was a smashing success. This annual event for students, businesses, faculty and administrators is the best example of a town-and-gown relationship.

The chamber of commerce's University Relations Committee sponsors the event. However, the picnic could not achieve the success it has without significant support from the business community and the university. Many businesses donated items used at the picnic. Also, many businesses set up tables to introduce themselves, particularly to new students. Chartwell's did an outstanding job of accommodating an off-site meal that was tasty and nutritious for the large number of attendees. University Facilities Management personnel were stellar in completing their tasks.

Thanks to all who worked hard to achieve the picnic's success.
