To the editor:
"Now, therefore, I, William J. Clinton, president of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2000 as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month. I encourage all Americans to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities that celebrate our diversity and recognize the gay and lesbian Americans whose many and varied contributions have enriched our national life. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this second day of June, in the year of our Lord two thousand, and of the independence of the United States of America the two hundred and twenty-fourth. William J. Clinton."
With these words, our soon-to-be ex-president Bill Clinton etched another line in his already shaky legacy. He has taken great pains to secure his legacy as the president who will be most remembered for abortion and adultery. From the very beginning of his presidency, he has courted the gay and lesbian coalition. They rewarded his favors with votes and money and helped re-elect him to a second term, which he then rewarded with this blasphemous proclamation.
The only good news is that Clinton will be out of office in less than six months. I hope the next president will be a person of character and integrity. I trust his first official act would be to reverse many of the ungodly proclamations of Bill Clinton. I trust his second official act would be to proclaim a national day of mourning so that we can repent of the many sinful policies of this administration.
One of our early presidents, James Madison, once said, "Providence punishes national sins with national calamities." Let us trust that in the national elections of this November we will return this nation to the godly, biblical principles upon which it was built and never have another president drag us down morally and spiritually as this one has done.
