Dear Friends,

Early on the morning of April 2, 1994, I was critically injured on duty while working a marathon race on a police motorcycle. Within minutes of the accident, a doctor, a nurse, and a emergency medical technician participating in the race came to my aid. From those initial moments following the accident until now, I have received expert medical care for my injuries. I want to thank those individuals at the scene, the outstanding staff of St. Francis Medical Center, and the wonderful staff of St. Louis University Hospital for helping to save my life!

There were other heroes who came forward during my ordeal. Over 100 individuals donated blood on my behalf in the days that followed my accident. Their "gift of life" not only provided me with the necessary blood to save my life, but also provided the same opportunity to many others who were in need.

Many people have sent cards, flowers, and other expressions of their concern to me and my family. A mere thank you hardly seems adequate to express the depth of my gratitude to you. Most of all, thank you for your prayers! Some of my doctors have said that my recovery is due to more than just good medical care. Surely God has been good to me! I would ask that you continue to keep me and my family in your prayers during my long recovery. I am still a patient at St. Louis University Hospital, but hope to return to St. Francis Medical Center very soon. While I have certainly enjoyed the many floral arrangements and balloons that have been sent, I would request that anyone who would like to send some expression of concern to please consider making a contribution to the American Red Cross or the Fraternal Order of Police instead.

The outpouring of love and concern shown by the citizens of Cape have certainly demonstrated to me why our city is such a wonderful place to live.
