To the editor:

"Evil is nothing but the removal of good until finally no good remains." St. Augustine wrote this passage from his "Confession" 1,600 years ago. Certainly he witnessed this, living a life of sin until his conversion and seeing the decline of the Roman Empire.

Today we have the opportunity to voice our opinion on the "removal of good" from our society. If you don't think our society is becoming evil, consider this: Years ago the word "sex" could not be mentioned on TV. Now not only is it commonplace, but we have the nation's leader rationalizing his perverted view of sex during prime time.

I am old enough to remember Soviet Premier Nikita Krushchev's pounding his shoe on the table and shouting, "We will bury you!" to this great and powerful nation. Of course, he was wrong. We are doing the job ourselves. By allowing good and moral values to be eroded, we are burying our country's future in evil.
