To the editor:

When Veterans Day was highlighted at our local high school, I came away more than impressed. The Renaissance group of Cape Girardeau Central High School presented tribute to veterans. This was a most inspiring presentation for several reasons.

First, it is most commendable that the youth of our high school had the opportunity to be involved in a most worthy celebration of Veterans Day. Calling attention to this national holiday is most significant in the face of the norm for the average citizen on such national holidays (Veterans Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day etc.), which is a day off from work with little thought to the purpose of the holiday.

Second, I was most impressed by the quality of the presentation. The Renaissance group presented a most inspirational tribute to veterans through the spine-chilling beauty of the Chamber Choir under the direction of Dinah Stricker, the participation of area veterans in the parade of flags and the posting of the colors, the most informative and poignant text presented through a team of qualified readers and written by Julia Howes Jorgensen, the solos by Abby Fletcher and Christy Hey and the essay "American Dream" by Samantha Brown.
