To the editor:
I saw a bumper sticker which read, "God is Pro-Life." I knew a Philistine wasn't driving the car. Philistines are still mad at Samson. It was probably some sincere person who wants the U.S. Supreme Court to stop abortions. Thanks to right-wing propaganda, the driver probably blames liberals for Roe vs. Wade.
The Supreme Court that rendered the 1973 decision that a woman, not the government, had control and choice over her body was the most conservative court in 35 years. Many of the justices were Republican appointees. The political right has used this issue to inflame its followers for over 25 years.
Abortions occurred before Roe vs. Wade. For poor women, they were either self-induced or performed by incompetent individuals. Overturning Roe vs. Wade would not stop abortions It would create a new class of criminals, and they would all be women.
If you have a mother, wife, daughter or granddaughter and you believe she should enjoy the right to vote, own property, earn equal pay, start a business and share political and economic power with men, thank the liberals who fought the battle for years for women's rights. Liberals stand up. Conservatives stand in the way.
