To the editor:

The Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have switched tactics in their effort to defeat the nominee for attorney general, John Ashcroft.

Democrats are demanding Ashcroft give them written answers to about 350 questions and are still considering launching a filibuster to defeat his nomination. They hope to delay the vote in order to accumulate thousands of letters, petitions, phone calls, mailgrams, faxes and e-mails protesting his nomination. They are desperate to ruin John Ashcroft's reputation with their politics of personal destruction.

If Ashcroft's nomination fails, the dam will be broken, and a flood of left-wing, anti-religious bigotry and race-baiting will wash away the hopes of any conservative, religious person who seeks high office.

If you believe that nobody should be persecuted in this manner using religion, race and lies, then please take the time to use your computers and go to www.senate.gov. You will be able to obtain the phone numbers and e-mail addresses of all 50 Democratic senators. You can then contact the Senators and voice your opinion.

Our country must not tolerate this form of discrimination anywhere, especially in our federal government.
