To the editor:
I'm very disappointed in the city governments of Jackson and Cape Girardeau for their intense opposition to the proposed Highway 34-72 improvements announced by the Missouri Department of Transportation. I keep reading phrases like "It isn't what we want" and "They aren't listening to us."
There are many residents of the area who do want and need this improvement. I think some people need to realize there is more to the area than two cities, and the rest of us have transportation needs as well as they do. We don't fight them every time MoDOT does something for the cities that doesn't help us. They shouldn't be fighting us now.
The city governments are getting a lot of newspaper coverage for their opposition. I would like to read something about the positive aspects of the planned improvement.
