To the editor:
I've always questioned the justice in our system where a prosecutor can grant immunity to a guilty person if that person will help him nail someone he has targeted, even though they are both guilty of the same offense.
We have those weak people who, in order to save their own skin, will turn against their partner, group, lover or even their brother. These people are rats, and rats are famous for being the first to leave a sinking ship. I know some of them.
Take the case of President Clinton, Kenneth Starr, Monica Lewinsky and Linda Tripp. Starr (pit bull of the Republican Party) is obsessed with getting Clinton, dishonoring him and kicking him out of office.
How good a hunter is Starr? He has rubbed his nose red and raw sniffing trail after trail like a bloodhound, and he hasn't bagged his prize game yet. Is he a poor hunter, or has he been hunting something for six years that doesn't exist? Unproven allegations do their harm to a person's honor and character for their lifetimes. Some people are destroyed by it.
It has been reported Starr would give Lewinsky immunity if she would testify in a way that would help him get Clinton. Justice, where art thou? It also has been reported Starr might subpoena Lewinsky's parents. How far will he go? How many innocent lives will he hurt? Starr's obsession to get Clinton shows us the wisdom of those who put in the Fifth Amendment.
Talk about character. Tripp is a dishonorable, double-crossing traitor. She used friendship, trust and faith to pull information from Lewinsky and taped it without her knowledge. The judge should order the tapes destroyed.
If Clinton is guilty of those allegations, I am not justifying his conduct. I personally believe "they" are out to get him, even if they have to do it with allegations that can't prove.
I believe is all the politicians and their staffs, all bureaucrats and their bureaucracies, the CIA, FBI, IRS, ATF and the Pentagon who had or are having affairs had to leave Washington, there would be a mass exodus, and there wouldn't be enough planes, buses and trains to haul them out.
Clinton no doubt had his faults, but he is a man of steel. In the last six years with Starr's wolf pack always nipping at his heel, how he eats, sleeps and conducts his awesome responsibility of that office beats me. His handling of the nation's business ranks with the best. What more might he have accomplished if he could have used all his mental capacity for the office.
