To the editor:

State Sen. Danny Staples doesn't want to ruin his chances of furthering his political career with the liberal-controlled Democratic Party in Missouri. This is the reason Staples did not vote to override Gov. Mel Carnahan's veto of the partial-birth abortion bill sponsored by state Sen. Peter Kinder.

Staples has taken a calculated risk which he figures he will win. He is willing to sacrifice the support of the voters in his district in order to gain the numerically superior support of the masses of liberals represented by the metropolitan areas of St. Louis and Kansas City. In the near future when he makes a bid for governor or U.S. senator, he figures the Democratic Party will repay the favors he has executed at the expense of your and my freedoms and nominate him as their candidate. In the process of their insane and ungodly quest for power, people like Staples, Carnahan and Attorney General Jay Nixon have sold their souls, have become polished liars and have become willing tools for the mass murder of infants.
