LETTERS: SPENDING WASTE AT RETIREES' EXPENSE

To the editor:

As the Republicans and Democrats are celebrating a balanced budget, the debts are increasing. They will continue to increase unless wasteful spending ceases.

By using the trust funds of civil service retirees as revenue in calculating the budget, the deficit has risen to about $90 billion less than the increase on the national debt.

The deceptive fiscal practices by our government produce a temptation to reduce retirees' benefits and continue pork-barrel spending. Some politicians would like this practice to cease, but pressure from their leaders would like this practice continued and they be kept quiet.

Eligible voters need to be aware of views of candidates on this matter and consider it when in the voting booth.
