To the editor:
On Aug. 1 I was headed to Sturgis, S.D., with some friends when my motorcycle broke down. My bike is a 26-year-old ex-police bike, and a bad repair by a previous owner finally caught up with her.
The damage was serious enough that I was "stuck" in Cape Girardeau for five days. However, if I have to be stuck anywhere in the future, I hope the people there will be half as friendly and helpful as the people I met in your town.
The entire staff of Minor's Harley-Davidson did everything in their power to get me back on the road as fast as possible, including going to a competitor to get parts needed to fix my bike. With past bad experience with other Harley dealers behind me, the excellent service provided by Minor's was a very pleasant surprise.
The people at Pear Tree Inn were also wonderful. They went out of their way to make sure my unplanned stay was as comfortable as possible.
When I started my trip, Cape Girardeau was just a spot on a map, and I had no intention to stay there. However, after the friendly and helpful manner in which I was treated by everyone I came in contact with, I will have to plan a trip to see more of your town. There must be something special there to produce such a great group of people.
