To the editor:
The following observations remind me of an expression of my father's about unsavory happenings: It sticks in my craw.
There was a Speak Out comment about Democrats and Republicans called "Proud of independence." Even though I detest the idea of Speak Out, I wish I had written it. It was a work of art I would have proudly signed my name to.
It probably will soon be unlawful to hold public office unless you are a lawyer. I pray for the day I have the opportunity to vote for a pro wrestler, basketball player or hog farmer.
Station Casinos of St. Charles is blaming competition, Wall Street and loss limits for abandoning its half-finished expansion eyesore. Why does the casino's whining and sniveling sound so familiar?
Headlines shout "Carnahan commutes death sentence of convicted murderer." The governor supports capital punishment but cites extraordinary circumstances. It is a rare victory for the Vatican, which has failed in other attempts to block executions. Lesson: Always get to someone in need of votes, like running for U.S. senator. With Carnahan's ability to speak from both sides of his face, the Senate would be a waste. He should go directly to the White House.
Yep, it's stuck in my craw.
