To the editor:
I watched most of the Republican convention. At times I almost believed it was non-fiction. I noticed Elizabeth Dole said Bob got his education with the GI Bill of Rights. She forgot to thank the Democrats for that. Millions of GIs got an education with that bill.
That GI Bill of Rights was pushed through by Democrat President Harry Truman. The Republicans said we couldn't afford it, but Truman showed them how. Bob Dole got his education with the help of the liberal taxpayers. President Roosevelt insured Bob's bank account, and because of that Bob didn't lose a dime during Reagan's epidemic of bank foreclosures. Now Dole denounces the liberal policies that helped him get where he is today.
Dole said he would do away with the IRS as we know it. I strongly believe if elected he will leave enough IRS employees to see that enough taxes are collected and enough Treasury Department employees to write out his many checks and mail them to him for the rest of his life.
Also, when Nancy Reagan appeared at the convention and the tears flowed on the convention floor as they were remembering what they thought was the greatness of Ronald Reagan, I cried too but for a different reason. I cried because of the Reagan legacy: a devastated treasury of the greatest nation on earth, at the same time creating multibillionaires. Billionaires and poor countries go together.
Bob Dole and Jack Kemp did not learn the supply-side lesson that left America hopelessly and helplessly in debt. These slow learners want more of it. If they're elected, America's epitaph will read: Suplly side did us in.
