To the editor:
The Christmas season is upon us, and, like most, our family is making lists and checking them twice. And, like a lot of families, we will have members who are not going to be with us physically, but spiritually.
But our situation is a little different. You see, we are a military family. Our son-brother-grandson-uncle is in a war zone in Croatia, Operation Joint Endeavor, attempting to help keep the peace so that families around the globe can have another day together. We are not complaining. Another day of freedom is probably the best gift we could ever receive, and we are thankful of that.
Our soldier writes: "I would like you to ask the paper to print this poem. Most people have forgotten that we are here, because there is very little news coverage on it in the states (from what I hear anyway) because it's an election year."
The author of the poem is unknown, but the words are not for millions of Americans. If you know a soldier or soldier's family, past or present, hug them and tell them "Thank you" for another day of freedom and sacrifice.
