I am writing you in concern about the Hancock II amendment. I mostly oppose this amendment for the effects it could have on education. As a Southeast Missouri State University student, I feel that if this amendment passes it could keep many bright and intelligent young adults from receiving a college education due to the fact that they could not afford the tuition. For example, some opponents say that the Hancock II amendment could cause tuition to go up $60 per credit hour and possibly could cause the closing of the school.

We live in a highly competitive world today. Many other countries are advanced in science, technology, medicine and many other industries. Passage of the Hancock II amendment could result in less doctors, scientists, professors and many other skilled professionals produced for our country. The education our youth receive today will help us remain competitive tomorrow.

Therefore, higher education should be accessible for our youth. I sincerely support and appreciate government funds for higher education, and I hope that they remain available. I hope that the citizens of Missouri will look past the surface of this amendment and see the true contents.
