To the editor:
I am writing in response to the concern voiced in Speak Out in the Feb. 28 edition.
Scott City's 911 system is a great benefit to citizens. Not only do dispatchers take all 911 calls, they also dispatch the North Scott County Ambulance Service, Scott City Police Department and Scott City Fire Department.
The City Council's 911 committee is currently looking at options on how to improve city relations, response time and other factors dealing with the running of a 911 system. Part of this research includes looking at other 911 services, especially the county 911 system in Morley. This is important, because interaction between the two 911 systems is integral to shared calls and responses.
The City Council has high expectations for its dispatch center. Proposed improvements are geared at personnel training, quicker response time and standard operating procedures and protocols.
The 911 committee is committed to its job by researching all the questions that arise with striving for the best 911 system in operation. This includes visiting other 911 centers, as well as reviewing training procedures and protocol for 911 center operations.
Citizens should be concerned if their City Council was not looking into whether or not our system is the best it can be for the residents of the city.
The city hopes the above information will help clear up any questions regarding the Scott City 911 center.
ERIKA GLOCK, City Administrator
