To the editor:
The PTA of Franklin Elementary School would like to thank Peggy Scott, Fred Lynch and the Southeast Missourian for publishing a very positive article on Oct. 14 about Franklin school and the 70th anniversary. In a world of so many negative influences for our children, it is enlightening for our town newspaper to have an article for and about our children that is positive and informative. You certainly exemplify the saying, "Children need models more than they need critics." Also, it is always fun for children to read about their school in the paper.
The Franklin school 70th anniversary homecoming is Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. and open to the public. The PTA would like to recognize anyone who attended Franklin school during the 70 years as teacher, student or employee during the celebrations program. Also during the program, the children of Franklin will sing the Franklin school song. Then the school will be open for visiting with friends and visiting the classrooms.
The 70th anniversary will be a time for students and their parents to learn some history about people and a building where they spend a large part of their day. Once again, thank you for the article, and we hope to see everyone at the celebration.

ELIZABETH HILEMAN, 70th Anniversary Chairperson
