To the editor:
I'd like to say something on behalf of the Marquette Hotel. The city council just likes to tear everything down. This hotel is a landmark for Cape Girardeau and Missouri.
You'd like to revive downtown? If the hotel is gone, you can say goodbye to Cape. You won't have any more attraction for any visitors. What would you show them? Empty stores?
If you would revive the hotel, you would have Cape up and running.
I know it costs money to do it. But everybody who is interested in the hotel would be willing to donate some money for the repairs. Put some donation boxes in stores for the restoration of the hotel. It may not be a million dollars, but it sure would help.
I have a few other suggestions for downtown Cape. Put some stores in where people can afford to shop. Put in a bakery where you can get a cup of coffee for a reasonable price. And don't charge so much rent. Isn't it better to have customers in stores instead of having them empty?
