To the editor:
The Friends of the Riverside Regional Library is an independent, not-for-profit organization of civic-minded volunteers. We support all six branches in Perryville, Altenburg, Jackson, Scott City, Benton and Oran. We do this by promoting library awareness and providing unbudgeted items for all the branches through fund-raising activities.
Our major fund raiser is the annual used-book sale. This will be 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Westfield Shoppingtown-West Park in Cape Girardeau. If anyone would like to help set up or work at the book sale, please call your local branch or any board member.
We would also like to respond to a Speak Out comment after our book sale last year regarding our decision to hold the sale at the mall instead of at the main branch in Jackson. Our decision was based on lack of space at the Jackson branch, higher traffic area to generate more revenue and easier access for more people. So far, our decision has been justified. We have raised, with the public's support, triple the amount of previous book sales.
We would like to encourage everyone to stop by and check out our amazingly low prices. Where else could you purchase a hardback Stephen King or John Grisham book for 50 cents? Your continued support is appreciated.
