To the editor:
Why is it that over 50 percent of the 1995 city budget of $54.9 million goes to our public works department, yet there are several city streets in bad need of repair?
I live in the 1000 block of South Pacific, and it is the only bock of Pacific that is not paved. Was it a simple oversight, or does the city not care about the people who live on this end of town?
I have written up a petition asking the city to please fix our street. I have the names of almost everyone who lives on this block. Whether or not this will work I do not know, but I refuse to give up.
Are we going to let the south end of town died and become another Smelterville simply because the people down here are not rich?
Come on, Cape Girardeau. Prove that all your citizens count, not just some of them.
