LETTERS: REPORT UPSETS DELTA MOM

Have you ever heard the expression "the noisy wheel gets the grease?" This expression can be aptly applied to the report done by KFVS-12 over the "problems" at Delta High School. This so-called problem of students being treated unfairly stems from an incident involving two female students who were sent home for improper dress.

I haven't figured out if KFVS got down here to cover it and realized there was no story and then went to interview the three high school dropouts that live here or if the residents who alerted them to these "problems" didn't share the real reason for their dissatisfaction.

Regardless, let's look at the facts. The TV report stated that five out of 175 students each year drop out of Delta High School. This means that 97 percent of students do not drop out of Delta High School. Did they know that out of last year's graduating class four or five students were awarded President's Scholarships to SEMO? This is from a class of approximately 25 students.

Have they bothered to come to one of the basketball games and witness the cohesiveness that our coaches, players and families share? Did they bother to investigate another item at the board meeting -- that of an innovative outdoor classroom for the elementary?

Did they ask any of the elementary students from the petting zoo that the FFA sponsors in the spring? Where were they last Friday night for the back-to-school-night sponsored by the Booster Club for the 7-12 students in the district? I think you get the point.

My own son was told to go put on a T-shirt under a jersey he had worn to school that same week. I appreciated the teacher who told me about it and I also appreciate the fact that Delta High School has standards and rules that are enforced by the administration.

In many of our minds the outlook for Delta High School has never looked brighter and I personally refuse to allow KFVS to tarnish it as they typically try to do to our area schools. Thank you to our administrators and school board for your hard work and dedication -- you are appreciated.
