To the editor:

As the former Adult Basic Education coordinator for the Cape Girardeau public schools from 1983 to 1995, I want to personally congratulate the new group of general equivalency diploma graduates who completed their high school education.

Many of these students I taught, advised, counseled, encouraged and pushed during by tenure. I know the hours of hard, hard work and sacrifice that led to that happy day in August when the diplomas were given to them.

I also want to apologize for my absence at this ceremony. Sadly, I wasn't invited.

I hope the Cape Girardeau community and the graduates will remember how much I believe in the GED program and the importance of completing high school.
