To the editor:
The recent municipal elections in Jackson provided the opportunity for voters to make a choice. Throughout the campaign, especially in the mayoral race, the candidates ran a positive campaign highlighting the tremendous amount of growth that Jackson has endured over the past few years. This growth is truly a testament to how great Jackson is and why so many people are proud to call this town home.
My decision to run for mayor was based on my sincere desire to help contribute to Jackson in a way I felt would have the greatest impact on making Jackson an even better place to live, work and raise a family. We are truly blessed to live in a city with such beautiful homes, churches, schools and parks. More importantly, though, we are blessed in having in our midst even greater people. The people in Jackson are truly the reason why Jackson has been able to become what it is today.
I want to publicly congratulate Mayor Paul Sander on his re-election to another term. I also want to wish him and the Board of Aldermen the best of luck as they continue to work together to address the issues that affect Jackson.
Finally, I want to thank everyone who came out in tremendous numbers to exercise their right to vote. Over 3,000 people took advantage of a beautiful day to cast their votes, the net result being that more people became involved in the process. This is something that should not be forgotten now that the election has come and gone. I realize that not everyone is going to be willing to sacrifice the time, effort and money it takes to become a candidate for public office, but there are other ways to remain active in seeing to it that Jackson continue to thrive. I urge and challenge everyone who cares for Jackson as much as I do to find a way that is comfortable for each individual to take an active role.
I will continue to lead the charge as a active citizen in working with the mayor and Board of Aldermen in a concerted effort to make Jackson even better.
