To the editor: When is Cape Girardeau going to catch up with the times and stop the trash and leaf burning? We can never count on opening our windows because of all the burning that goes on. Is there really any reason for this since we have fall leaf pick up and spring cleanup? Or is this going to continue indefinitely causing those of us with asthma and lung problems untold misery?...

After living in St. Louis for many years where we were not allowed to burn so much as a scrap of paper, this is very hard to live with. It's hard to believe the air here is not as good as a big city, but it's true. Many times this burning trash is left to smolder all night, and it seeps in your windows no matter how tightly they are closed.

Please, Mayor Spradling, read this and take action to give us all clean air to breathe. Please, citizens of Cape, do something before we all die of lung cancer.
