To the editor:
Campaign finance reform: Is it a good idea or just another mouthing off by the two worn-out controlling parties? My guess would be the latter.
Republicans don't want it because they would lose all that big corporation money. It seems to me it's nothing but an elaborate legal bribe. Why do we keep electing these bribe taking officials.
Democrats only want the reform to damage their opponents' money-making abilities. They started squealing like pigs when the Republicans said, "Hey, what about all that money from labor unions?" The truth is neither party really wants true campaign reform. They just want an edge.
True reform in my opinion would be to cut the legs off both the controlling parties. If a man is worth his salt he shouldn't need $49 million to prove it. I suggest, and the Reform Party does also, that politicians take money only from individuals. This would end big-money politics.
Could you imagine driving down your hometown streets and not haveing your vision blurred by all those political ads? Could you imagine a real debate on TV about real issues instead of a lot of time wasted on political doubletalk? Aren't you tired of those political ads on TV? Could you imagine honest elected officials instead of the bought and paid-for types.
If you said yes, maybe you're not a Democrat or a Republican after all. Maybe you really want reform. If you want reform, vote Reform Party, and let's move on to the real issues.
