The Missouri Senate's top leader has taken a wrong position if an article in the Feb. 7 Southeast Missourian is correct, and I assume it is.

It is reported that Peter Kinder, president pro tem of the Senate, offered an amendment that will again delay the passage and implementation of a bill to lower the standard for drinking and driving. "A two-year delay seems a reasonable thing," Kinder said.

His position is certainly not reasonable. This amendment could effectively kill the legislation for another year. We don't need legislators to support drinking and driving.

Kinder stated he is concerned that "neo-prohibitionists" will try to further lower the legal limit. In my opinion, no one should drink and drive regardless of the limit.

Obviously, he is more concerned about the alcohol industry and "neo-prohibitionists" than for the innocent lives that will be lost due to his position.

We expect more from Kinder as a leader.
